Black for Bedroom, Does it Really Work?!

If I say I'm gonna paint my bedroom walls black, what will come first to your mind?

Maybe something like:

spooky;
mysterious;
too dark;
witch?!
or
eeeewwwww...?!?!

Well, you are not the first to think that to paint your bedroom walls black is such an outrageous idea.

I did it too believe me!. Then after 4 years of "beating-my-bones-pulling-my-hair-out-and-countless-sleepless-nights" in University taking Interior Design Major, and plus another couple years later, I'm no longer scared of black walls. Yay!

The point is, you can use dark colors like dark grey, or even black for your bedroom, but make sure not to overuse the color!

By overuse I mean: please kindly don't paint the whole thing black or it will surely look like a pot.

It will work, as an accent, works perfect too as a focal point.

Focal point
"The first thing
your eyes catch
when you walk
into the room"

Will get to the focal point-thing in another post...

However, bellow is my 3D render of a master bedroom painted in dark grey and greyish white.

The dark grey color, which doesn't dominates the room, gives the room elegance and tranquility without creating spooky atmosphere.

Notice the drop ceiling and the wall behind the tivo also painted dark grey (the panel behind the tivo has even darker color), and next to the tv, of course, black accentuate the wall for build in bookshelves.

Finally, If you feel black or dark painted walls is too intense for you, you can always opt for black painted furniture; lamp; upholstery; or carpet. Don't be afraid to experiment ;)
